SeaWorld, PETA trade jabs over park animals Tue, 09 Mar 2010People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) criticized SeaWorld over its practice of using whales and dolphins in its shows in a banner towed by a plane over the theme park Tuesday.
SeaWorld: Let whales and dolphins out of prison, the PETA banner proclaimed in a reference to the Feb. 24 fatal accident of SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau.
Responding to the fly-by message that occurred about 11 a.m., SeaWorld branded the message a “publicity stunt” by an “extremist organization” that is more interested in photo opportunities than helping animals.
“We’re left to wonder how many animals in need could’ve been helped with the thousands of dollars spent on PETA’s latest exercise in theatrics,” SeaWorld said on its blog post.
