A look at the revamped ‘Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade’
Thu, 19 Aug 2010

For those who haven’t been to the Magic Kingdom in the past two weeks, here are some photos illustrating the changes to the daytime “Celebrate a Dream Come True” parade.

The quick version: Tiana and Naveen are in; Baloo and King Louis are out; more characters at the front of the parade; the Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit have joined in; The three-section princess float has been dismantled, and the Cinderella portion repainted in brighter colors.

Here are the best photos I was able to get; there are a lot of challenges in snapping photos during a moving Disney parade with thousands of other guests around you!

You can see more characters right from the parade's start. Donald and Goofy from the finale float are now there. Jessie is barely visible at the far left of the photo, and Lilo and Stitch are also part of the character group in front of the parade. Gone were the happy banner-twirling girl and the grand marshal car. (photo by Matt Palm)

This photo gives a better sense of how when the characters mingle together, it feels like a bigger group. Lilo and Stitch are visible in the back. (photo by Matt Palm)

Notice the vibrant blue and bright orange of the now-solo Cinderella float. Very different from the former pastel color scheme. The wedding-cake aspect of the float seems gone to me now. Love the interaction going on between Lady Tremaine and her daughter Anastasia! (photo by Matt Palm)

Here's a front-on view. The float actually looks nicer than I expected without the other two attachments, though I'm not sure that Fairy Godmother cape effect works. (photo by Matt Palm)

Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen are at the front of the finale float. The music has been changed from the previous princess-section and finale music to the generic parade theme so we don't hear Goofy wishing for chocolate cake anymore. The princes and princesses no longer have required choreography, so Tiana and Naveen could bounce along to the catchy parade tune in their New Orleans style. (photo by Matt Palm)

Ariel and Prince Eric have the highest spot on the finale float -- a little odd. Maybe Tiana and Naveen, as the newest Disney royalty, should have been perched up there? At least there would be a reason for it. But Eric and Ariel have the advantage of standing together so they can interact. Half the fun of watching the characters is seeing how they relate to each other. Belle and Beast, Tiana and Naveen, positioned on opposite sides of the float, don't have much to do beyond waving without their partner nearby. It would be better to group them by couple, as the float does during the Christmas parade. (photo by Matt Palm)
